Natural cycle monitoring involves tracking ovulation through ultrasound and hormonal tests throughout your menstrual cycle, without the use of fertility medications. When the dominant follicle reaches the appropriate size, a human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) injection is administered to trigger the final maturation of the egg.
After 34-36 hours, one of the following procedures takes place:
✔ Timed intercourse
✔ Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
✔ Egg retrieval (for IVF treatment)
If Egg Retrieval is Performed:
- The collected egg is fertilized with your partner’s sperm.
- The resulting embryo is cultured in the laboratory for 3 or 5 days.
- It is then transferred back to the uterus (embryo transfer) or cryopreserved for future use.
If Timed Intercourse or IUI is Performed:
- You will receive guidance on when to take a pregnancy test.
- Progesterone support may be prescribed if necessary.
Who Can Benefit from Natural Cycle Monitoring?
✅ Women with poor ovarian response to IVF treatments
✅ Women with very low AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) levels
✅ Those who cannot or prefer not to take hormonal medication for IVF
✅ Women looking for a more affordable alternative to a full IVF cycle
Natural cycle monitoring is a gentle approach to fertility treatment, utilizing the body’s natural ovulation process while maximizing the chances of conception.
