After being discharged from the maternity hospital, whether you had a vaginal birth or a cesarean section, you will receive detailed instructions for both yourself and your baby.
Postpartum Care for the Mother
If You Had a Vaginal Birth
✔ Maintain proper hygiene of the perineal area.
✔ Wash with mild antiseptic soap with a neutral pH.
✔ Avoid irritants, such as strong soaps or scented products.
If You Had a Cesarean Section
✔ Clean the incision with an antiseptic solution.
✔ Keep the wound dry until your postpartum follow-up.
✔ Monitor for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, or fever.
6-Week Postpartum Check-Up
At six weeks postpartum, you will have a follow-up appointment to assess your recovery. The visit will include:
✔ Pap Smear Test (if not done at the beginning of pregnancy).
✔ Blood Tests, including:
- Complete Blood Count (CBC)
- Iron and Ferritin Levels
- Thyroid Panel (TSH, FT3, FT4, anti-TPO, anti-TG)
- Glucose and HbA1c (Glycated Hemoglobin)
✔ Transvaginal Ultrasound to check uterine recovery.
If you are breastfeeding, you will also discuss:
✔ Your breastfeeding experience and progress.
✔ Any issues with milk supply or latching.
✔ The condition of your breasts, including possible engorgement, blocked ducts, or mastitis.
If needed, our midwife can visit you at home to provide breastfeeding support and assist with newborn care.
