Dr. Maria D. Oikonomou is an Obstetrics and Gynecology Consultant specializing in Gynecological Endocrinology, Menopause and Assisted Reproduction. She also holds a Diploma in Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG) in the United Kingdom.

After obtaining her medical degree from the Medical School of Athens, Dr. Oikonomou specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Athens and London, becoming a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG). She further specialized in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) – Infertility, Laparoscopic Surgery, and Endometriosis management at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and Homerton University Hospital in London. In 2023, she decided to return to Greece.

During her specialization in Assisted Reproduction, Dr. Oikonomou was responsible for the Fertility Management Program for Women Over 40 and the Egg Freezing Program for women and adolescents with Endometriosis or Malignancies at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in collaboration with the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. She also treated women seeking fertility preservation for social reasons.

Dr. Oikonomou holds a Master’s degree in the Management of High-Risk Pregnancies from the University of Athens. Her doctoral research focuses primarily on the management of women with low Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) levels and Premature Menopause (Ovarian Insufficiency).

As part of her training in Gynecological Endocrinology, she has handled numerous cases of Premature Ovarian Insufficiency and Menopause. Her holistic approach to patient care is based on the understanding that each woman is unique, with different symptoms requiring personalized treatment and attention. She emphasizes identifying the root cause of issues rather than simply addressing symptoms.

Additionally, she is a strong advocate of Natural Childbirth, Water Birth, and Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).

In 2023, she completed her specialization in Infertility and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RCOG) in the UK. She also holds a certification in Gynecological Ultrasound from the British Fertility Society and is trained in performing Hysterosalpingo-Contrast Sonography (HyCoSy) and 3D ultrasound for infertility assessment.

Dr. Oikonomou has been part of the teaching faculty at Imperial College London, where she lectured on Gynecological Endocrinology and Infertility to final-year medical students. She is also a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology (ESHRE) and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
